Visiting the Ojai Hot Springs (Ecotopia) in California

Here’s everything you need to know and the latest updates for visiting the hot springs in Ojai, CA, also known as Ecotopia Hot Springs. It’s one of my favorite hot springs in California.

Ojai Hot Springs Ecotopia

A Bit of History

Back in the day, the Ojai Hot Springs (also known as Matilija Hot Springs) were mostly known to locals, hidden in nature, and enjoyed with respect. Unfortunately, 6 or 7 years ago this spot started getting much more popular due to news write-ups, social media, etc. and the spot was overrun by people who really trashed it. As the Ojai Hot Springs were always on private property, this caused the owners to privatize the spot.

Under Management of Ecotopia Hot Springs

Under the management of Ecotopia Hot Springs, the hot springs have been cleaned up and now may be visited by private reservation. Ecotopia requires you to make reservations in advance and make a purchase from their CSA (community supported agriculture). Essentially, you pay $20, receive something from the farm, and get to explore the farm and the hot springs for 2 hours.

About The Hot Springs

The Ojai Hot Springs are located along the Matilija River in the Los Padres National Forest. You’ll find five rock bottomed hot spring pools surrounded by boulders with temperatures ranging from 100 to 106 degrees. These waters are sulfurous, so be prepared for a bit of an aroma!

How to Get There & Parking

Here are the Google Maps Directions and parking is available at Ecotopia.
